TERENCE BLANCHARD + THE E-COLLECTIVE

TURQUOISE

“Blanchard’s body of work is one of the broad- est and most imposing of any living jazz musi- cian…He’s one of the rare jazz composers who can load up a piece with rich harmony and real rhythmic pleasure, without feeling the need to tie things up neatly or deliver a clean payoff.”

— New York Times

Six-time GRAMMY-winning trumpeter, composer and cultural icon Terence Blanchard celebrates the extraordinary musical legacy of Miles Davis and John Coltrane with Turquoise, his forthcoming January release on Mack Avenue Records.

Conceived in celebration of the centennials of two of jazz's most consequential figures, Turquoise is Blanchard's deeply personal love letter to the artists whose music helped shape his own musical identity. Drawing from the remarkable period when Davis and Coltrane shared the bandstand, Blanchard and his ensemble bring a fresh perspective to beloved compositions including “Flamenco Sketches,” “On Green Dolphin Street,” “All of You,” and “Two Bass Hit.” A particularly inventive medley weaves together “Someday My Prince Will Come,” “All Blues,” and “Teo,” transforming familiar melodies into an exhilarating musical conversation.

Far from a nostalgic recreation, Turquoise approaches this iconic repertoire through Blanchard's distinctive musical voice, honoring the spirit of exploration, innovation, and fearless improvisation that defined both Davis and Coltrane. The result is a celebration of their influential innovation, and how their story connects with Blanchard’s own trailblazing path.
